It’s almost that time of year again!
On Saturday, Nov. 22, we’ll be delivering hearty meals to 2,000 local households for our 2nd annual Thanksgiving Meal Delivery.
We’ll be distributing an additional 1,500 food boxes through dozens of community partners across the Portland metro area.
For years, Sunshine Division has distributed special Thanksgiving — including a whole frozen turkey and traditional sides — from our two locations in North & Southeast Portland.
The week of Thanksgiving has always been one of Sunshine Division’s busiest times of year, but the demand has reached unprecedented levels since 2020.
In 2023, we served nearly 4,000 households in the three days leading up to Thanksgiving. People lined up by the hundreds — at one point officers, had to temporarily block off part of Southeast Stark Street near 122nd Avenue because of the line to our food pantry.
It was during this week that we realized it was time to find a better, safer way to ensure food-insecure families don’t go hungry during the holidays.
Inspired by annual Holiday Meal Delivery — a tradition that began nearly 103 years ago — we decided to expand our efforts and host two holiday meal deliveries every year, made possible thanks to the generosity of our supporters and volunteers.
