Partnering with First Responders
Sunshine Division partners with the Portland Police Bureau to provide food assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our food boxes can be found in every local precinct.
Sunshine Division was founded by the bureau in 1923 to provide free food boxes to Portlanders in need during the holidays. Our organization formed as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the 1960s but has maintained a strong relationship with the bureau to serve our community.
First responders also play an important role in providing a clothes shopping experience to children in need our Izzy’s Kids “Shop With A Cop” Program.
Every December a group of Portland police officers and cadets volunteer to help us distribute food boxes for our annual Holiday Meal Distribution.
Sunshine Division’s Portland Police Liaison, Officer Rashida Saunders, was appointed in January 2023 to connect families and individuals in need with our services.
If you are in need of emergency food assistance, you may reach out to the Portland Police Bureau nonemergency line at 503-823-3333.
