Holiday Meal Distribution
Sunshine Division has distributed food to local families in need every holiday season since 1922. This founding tradition became our first core program the following year.
Our annual Holiday Meal Distribution has expanded over the years, but the heart of its mission remains unchanged.
Each December, we distribute over 4,000 food boxes and turkey meal kits to families and individuals in need.
About 2,500 food boxes and turkey meal kits are home-delivered to clients’ doorsteps in Portland and Gresham with help from hundreds of volunteer drivers and first responders. An additional 1,500 food boxes are distributed to households across the metro area through our community partners.
This founding tradition began in Southwest Portland’s Goose Hollow neighborhood when a group of Portland Police Reserve officers delivered baskets of food to families in crisis.
