Sunshine Division has operated out of its North Portland warehouse and food pantry since 1975. It’s time for us to find a new home.
Our Next Century of Service
Sunshine Division is a century-old organization that has been providing emergency food assistance in our Portland-metro neighborhoods since 1923. Over the past decade, we have witnessed the demand for our services grow exponentially. Operating from our North Thompson Street warehouse since 1975, our recent growth has led to the addition of a second food pantry in Southeast Portland, a home-delivery program, and expanded holiday food distributions. Challenges like inflation, the COVID-19 pandemic, SNAP benefit cuts, and soaring housing costs in Portland have fueled this surge. For over three years, Safeway Albertsons has been a crucial partner, offering a temporary warehousing solution.

However, our lease will come to an end, and we’ve outgrown our North Portland warehouse and headquarters.
We seek your support to secure a new, suitable home for Sunshine Division, allowing us to not only sustain our mission, but greatly expand into our Next Century of Service. Your backing is pivotal in creating a brighter future for our community and ensuring our ability to continue to respond.
A Sound Investment
Charity Navigator has awarded Sunshine Division a 4-out-of-4 star rating for fiscal transparency, efficiency, and leadership every year since 2012/
Sunshine Division is the only hunger-relief organization in Oregon that has received this prestigious designation for 12 consecutive years. Only two other nonprofits statewide — and fewer than 3% of nonprofits nationwide — have achieved this recognition consecutively for a decade or more.

Our Impact & Projected Growth

Sunshine Division is feeding nearly 100,000 households per year in the Portland metro area, distributing over 3 million pounds of food. At a projected annual growth rate of 5%, we’ll be feeding 165,000 households per year within a decade and 270,000 households per year in the next 20 years.
Our Vision for the Future
To serve the community, we need the appropriate tool to receive, sort, warehouse, and distribute food. In order for us to make this vision a reality, we need:
- Approximately 25,000 square feet of warehousing capacity
- Operational capacity to increase volunteer programming
- Appropriate logistical space to sort, package and receive more than 2X our current peak inventory
- Office space to accommodate our entire staff today and growth for the future
- Operational space for Sunshine Division trucks, trailers, and seasonal overflow
- Capacity for future expansion of programs and distribution
