Izzy’s Kids “Shop With A Cop”
Sunshine Division teams up with the Portland Police Bureau and other first responders in the metro area to provide a back-to-school shopping experience for children from low-income families through our Izzy’s Kids Program.
Started in the 1970s by former Sunshine Division Board Chair Isabell Hoyt, this program has paired nearly 10,000 children with local law enforcement over the years to outfit them with over $1.5 million worth of clothes.
100% of these shopping experiences are funded by our amazing Sunshine donors!
Every year, about 500 children receive brand-new clothing and other essentials to prepare them for school. We have partnered with Fred Meyer for over a decade to provide kids with discounted prices on items.
This experience not only gives confidence to students by providing them with a new set of clothes and new school supplies; it also provide a way for struggling families and local law enforcement to have positive interactions and build trust with one another.
This program operates through referrals by our community partners who help us identify children in need of clothing assistance.
