Sunshine Division is opening a permanent new headquarters on NW Front Ave near downtown Portland. It’s built to serve more neighbors, more efficiently. We’ve raised almost $9 million toward our $11.75 million goal. With your support, we’ll be able to open fully funded, fully stocked, and ready to serve from day one.

Sunshine Division is moving into a permanent new headquarters on NW Front Ave near downtown Portland. The space will allow us to store more food, welcome more volunteers, and serve more families and individuals without reliable food access. With nearly 75% of our $11.75 million goal already raised, we need your help to secure the final $2.98 million to open fully funded and ready to serve the community.
OUR CAMPAIGN PROGRESS
We’re 75% There
With your support, we’ve moved on from the aging North Thompson Street warehouse, our home for the past 50 years, and we’ve begun to settle into the new headquarters. As we work to complete the facility, your gift will help us:
• Complete our new Free Food Market and Volunteer Center
• Purchase essential equipment to run daily operations
• Fill our shelves with food for the families we serve
Every dollar brings us closer to opening our doors fully ready.
From Temporary to Permanent
Since 2020, Safeway Albertsons has generously provided a temporary warehouse space in Wilsonville. This space has allowed us to continue to meet the growing need for food assistance in the community.
But it was never meant to be a long-term solution.
Now, we’re ready to bring all of our operations back to the heart of Portland and operate more efficiently than ever before.

There are so many ways to make a difference. Volunteering is a great place to start.
Growing to Meet the Need
Generations of families have known Sunshine Division as a place Portlanders can turn for food assistance. From the Great Depression to the 2008 recession to the COVID-19 pandemic and recent cuts to SNAP benefits, we have continued to serve our community.
For more than a century, we have stepped up to meet the need.
Over the past decade, the number of people coming to Sunshine Division for food has grown fourfold, and demand continues to rise.
Since 2020, Safeway Albertsons has generously allowed us to warehouse and distribute food from a vacant grocery store space in Wilsonville. This temporary, rent-free solution allowed us to continue serving the community while preparing to leave our aging warehouse facility on North Thompson Street.
We are deeply grateful for Safeway Albertsons’ support. But the Wilsonville location, located far from our Portland programs, was never meant to be a long-term solution.
What Happens Next
Our new headquarters marks the beginning of a stronger, more efficient future for Sunshine Division’s hunger relief programs.
For the first time in nearly a decade, our food pantry, warehouse, volunteer operations, and administrative teams will operate from one centralized Portland location. This allows us to move food faster, store more of it, and serve more families with dignity and consistency.’
What This Means for the Community
More food available year-round: With 20,000+ square feet of warehouse space and a 140% increase in storage capacity, we can keep shelves stocked and respond quickly to rising need.
Faster food distribution: A centralized facility with multiple loading docks helps us receive, pack, and distribute food more efficiently to families and partners.
Expanded pantry services: Our new 10,000-square-foot pantry and volunteer space allows us to serve hundreds of visitors each week in a welcoming, dignified environment.
Better access for families: Located near downtown and accessible by public transit, the new facility makes it easier for families and partners to reach us.
Our Southeast Stark Street pantry will remain open and Sunshine Division emergency food boxes will continue to be available 24/7 at all Portland Police precincts.

We are transforming the warehouse into Sunshine Division’s new fulfillment center, replacing our temporary solution in Wilsonville provided by Safeway Albertsons since 2020.
We designed the building to include a new food pantry, warehouse space, a designated volunteer area, and administrative offices.
With the community’s support, we’ve already been able to move into the facility and relaunch our home-delivery program at the new warehouse. But we still need to raise about $3.5 million to complete this project, fully funded and ready to serve.

“As our community’s needs have grown, so has the demand for Sunshine Division’s services. It’s become clear that they need a new, expanded facility to accommodate this growth and continue to meet the rising demand for their essential services.
