Volunteer With Us
Individual Volunteering
Join us at our Southeast Stark Street Food Pantry where you can provide vital support to our community by assisting clients with their shopping appointments. Open Tuesday through Saturday, we offer an appointment-based personalized shopping experience for families and individuals in need of immediate food assistance. Working alongside our dedicated Stark Street staff, volunteers gain skills in communication, organization, multitasking, and attention to detail. Volunteering at our pantry is perfect for individuals or small groups and provides a meaningful opportunity to witness the impact of your efforts firsthand.
Volunteer Roles
Box Builder: Building base boxes is an important first step in the process of distributing food to our pantry clients. This role takes place behind the scenes in our pantry warehouse. Volunteers create “base boxes” that contain non-perishable items such as canned soup, rice and peanut butter. Later, personal shoppers will add fresh produce and other requested items from our rotating stock to complete the base box and bring it to the client.
Client Assistant: Engage with our clients in person! Assistants fill out order
forms alongside clients by explaining the process and helping them select which foods from our rotating inventory will best meet their needs. The assistant hands the form over to a personal shopper who fills the custom order.
Personal Shopper: Work with staff and other volunteers to complete client orders. Personal shoppers add shelf-stable and fresh food items like bread, produce, and baking mixes to each box according to the client’s preferences.

Group Volunteering
Looking for a rewarding group activity? Have fun and make an impact with a unique team-building experience at our Wilsonville Fulfillment Center! Whether you’re coworkers, students, a church group, a large family, or a group of friends, volunteering for Sunshine Division is a fantastic way to bond while giving back to your local community.
Most groups will work together filling food boxes for distribution to our SE Stark St. Food Pantry and partner agencies. Other warehouse activities include filling snack bags and food sorting. When you arrive at the warehouse, you’ll check in and learn more about Sunshine Division’s history and mission. Next, our warehouse. staff will take your team through a brief training and important safety reminders. Then, cue the music and get to work for a rewarding day of service that builds community and character. Group volunteers are essential to our mission of providing immediate food relief across the Portland metro area.
